Olivier Toggwiler est un artiste autodidacte Franco Suisse né à Genève. Il grandit à Lyon où il découvre et apprend la photographie. En 2007 il quitte Lyon pour venir s’installer à Boulogne-Billancourt puis Paris. Depuis 2019 Il vit et travaille à Montreuil, France.
En 2023, après quelques années de remises en questions à l’issue d’une crise existentiel profonde, soutenue par trois années de psychanalyse, de pratique de la danse contemporaine et de recherches personnelles, Olivier commence à initier une nouvelle approche sur son travail artistique.
Il décide de présenter celui-ci provenant de cette période introspective intermédiaire et de porter un regard nouveau sur son travail passé jusqu’ici laissé en réflection.
Olivier accorde beaucoup d’importance à la chronologie, à l'expérience personnelle et aux divers lieux d’habitations qui nourrissent l'artiste et qui composent son image et sa pratique à un instant donné.
Ses interrogations et réflexions se regroupent par chapitres, comme des espaces temps singuliers de l’existence vécu et fondent la démarche artistique d’Olivier: une analyse de son rapport au monde, le cheminement d’un développement artistique semé d'embûches, jusqu'alors inassouvie.
Il questionne son rapport à l’Image aussi bien psychique que physique, l’acte photographique ou artistique qui en résulte, la recherche identitaire et le cheminement de la “mise en corps” de l'œuvre.
Travaillant l’image, principalement avec la photographie, Olivier voit l’acte photographique et plus généralement la captation d’images par quelque biais que ce soit, comme une continuité de sa réflexion psychique en mouvement. Il y associe plusieurs autres médiums jusqu’au travail performatif aujourd’hui en réflexion.
De l'inconscient au conscient, L’Image y est au centre. L’importance et la raison du cheminement interne qui la fait émerger à pour lui autant ou même parfois plus d’importances que la plastique qui la représente.
Pour finir, cette présentation achevée en 2026, regroupe textes et œuvres à dimensions et représentations variables dont certaines se font écho et se retrouvent comme dans une boucle temporelle, un éternel retour différencier par l'expérience, non pas pour un retour en arrière mais au contraire pour une éternelle évolution. Elles sont la finalité et/ou le point de départ de concepts contextuels, réflexifs, et évolutifs.

Olivier Toggwiler is a self-taught Franco-Swiss artist born in Geneva. He grew up in Lyon, where he discovered and learned photography. In 2007, he left Lyon to settle first in Boulogne-Billancourt and then in Paris. Since 2019, he has been living and working in Montreuil, France.
In 2023, after several years of soul-searching following a profound existential crisis—supported by three years of psychoanalysis, contemporary dance practice, and personal exploration—Olivier began to develop a new approach to his artistic work.
He decided to present work from this period of introspection and to take a fresh look at his past work, which had previously been set aside for reflection.
Olivier places great importance on chronology, personal experience, and the various places he has called home—all of which nourish the artist and shape his image and practice at any given moment.
His questions and reflections are organized into chapters, like distinct moments in time within his lived experience, and form the foundation of Olivier’s artistic approach: an analysis of his relationship to the world, the journey of an artistic development fraught with obstacles, one that has remained unfulfilled until now.
He examines his relationship to the image—both psychological and physical—the resulting photographic or artistic act, the search for identity, and the process of “embodying” the work.
Working with images, primarily through photography, Olivier views the act of photography—and more generally, the capture of images by any means—as an extension of his ever-evolving psychological reflection. He incorporates several other mediums into his practice, including the performative work he is currently exploring.
From the unconscious to the conscious, the image is at the center. For him, the significance and rationale of the internal journey that brings it to light are just as important—and sometimes even more so—than the visual form in which it is represented.
Finally, this presentation, completed in 2026, brings together texts and works of varying dimensions and representations, some of which echo one another and recur as if in a temporal loop—an eternal return shaped by experience, not as a step backward but, on the contrary, as an eternal evolution. They are the culmination and/or the starting point of contextual, reflective, and evolving concepts.
